The Jersey Design Process | Bearserkers
When we received an email from this year's University of Warwick cohort, expectations were high and we were not disappointed!
The Warwick Bears, a university team based in Warwick, UK, contacted us with a couple of sketches and a brief for this year's intake - Bearserkers. The goal: design up an amazing Pure jersey. We were excited to show everyone on the team what we can do with some hard work and a lot of design talent!
A big "thank you" goes out to Bearserkers who allowed us to share their initial sketch and brief with the world.
Designing a Custom Ultimate Uniform
An amazing design evolves more easily from the most rudimentary of sketches - every little bit of information helps us get started.
Design Brief
The amazing brief the team put together was as follows:
"Obviously the name is a pun on berserkers so the design will be something in that theme. As a colour scheme we were thinking something like celtic blue and black. The designs we’ve come up with so far is this one for the front, where the idea is that a celtic berserker with a helmet and blue ‘war paint’ throws a frisbee which wraps around the shirt and leaves a trail and a translucent blue ‘ghost’ bear catches it, underscoring the ‘bear’ in bearserker with claw marks.
"On the back our thoughts were to combine the back image above and a design like this, with blue translucent fire with a white bear paw in it as a background, with the number and name either outlined or filled in white."
What made this brief great for us is that the team had lots of ideas at the outset, such as color scheme and a concept for both the front and the back of the jersey - including wanting both player numbers and names. The team was really receptive to suggestions about how all of these ideas could be implemented, which made the subsequent design process smooth. By the end, we all agreed that a couple of elements were crowding the design, so they were removed without the spirit of the brief being lost.
And what's not to love about ghost bear catching a throw from a berserker?!

After a couple of revisions, the team was delighted with their design and their jerseys went into production. Stay tuned on Lookfly's Instagram account for the great uniform reveal!
