Screen Printing

...also known as silk-screening or serigraphy, is a printmaking technique that traditionally creates a sharp-edged single-color image using a stencil and a porous fabric. A screen-print or serigraph is an image created using this technique. It began as an industrial technology, and was adopted by American graphic artists in the 1930s; the Pop Art movement of the 1960s further popularized the technique. Many of Andy Warhol's most famous works were created using the technique. It is currently popular both in fine arts and in small-scale commercial printing, where it is commonly used to put images on T-shirts, hats, ceramics, glass, polyethylene, polypropylene, paper, metals, and wood. In electronics, the term silkscreen or silkscreen legend often refers to the writing on a printed circuit board. Silk screen printing may also be used in the process of etching the copper wiring on the board. Printing technique
A screen is made of a piece of porous, finely woven fabric (originally silk, but typically made of polyester or nylon since the 1940s) stretched over a wood or aluminum frame. Areas of the screen are blocked off with a non-permeable material—a stencil—which is a negative of the image to be printed; that is, the open spaces are where the ink will appear. The screen is placed on top of a piece of dry paper or fabric. Ink is placed on top of the screen, and a squeegee (rubber blade) is used to spread the ink evenly across the screen. The ink passes through the open spaces in the screen onto the paper or fabric below; then the screen is lifted away. The screen can be re-used after cleaning. If more than one color is being printed on the same surface, the ink is allowed to dry and then the process is repeated with another screen and different color of ink.

Print Colours

Screen printing uses inks that you can customise into any single colour that you wish including metallics like silver and gold.

Screen Print Area

The largest print size is 44cm tall and 35cm wide.

Limitations to Screen Printing

Yes, there are a few. Your logo needs to be in flat colours and cannot be in gradients. It is also not possible to print across a seam and your logo needs to be at least 1 inch from a garment seam or edge. It is only possible to screen print onto a single layer surface (e.g., not on lined shorts or lined hoods). A screen is a fixed size, so you need to ensure that what you wish to print will fit on the smallest sized garment in your order (e.g., a small women's shirt). If your logo needs to be relatively proportioned to the size of the shirt it is going on, we recommend that you create seperate screens for your men's shirts and your women's shirts.

Screen Life

We do not keep physical screens after printing, but all artwork and output transparencies are kept on file. As long as your team reorders within 18 months of your last order using the same artwork, you will not be charged for new screens.

Artwork Formats

We accept all major PC artwork file formats including:
BITMAP BASED - JPEG, PSD, EPS, PDF, TIFF, BMP, PNG.
VECTOR BASED - AI, PDF, EPS
All Bitmap based files need to be 300 DPI (dots per inch) and sized to the size which you would like to see it on your garment. All Vector based files need to be sized correctly and if possible, please use layers to separate your colours.

Artwork Assistance

If you need help with your artwork and you cannot meet our artwork specifications, we can help to make it print ready for a one-off charge of £35.00.

What is Vinyling?

Vinyling is the process where we create, cut and apply custom team names and/or numbers to garments in a wide range of colours and lettering styles (PC True Type Fonts). Once the names and/or numbers are plotted, cut and any unwanted vinyl is weeded away, they are then applied to each garment by hand using a large heat press machine. All vinyl applications are washable to 40 degrees C although they should not be ironed or put in the tumble dryer.

Vinyl Numbers

Vinyling gives us the flexibility to produce names and/or numbers in a wide range of PC True Type fonts to suit the look of your team at a low cost. It would be impossible to screen print a name on the back of a shirt without manufacturing a screen for each name. If we screen printed numbers on the back of each shirt, we would have to limit font choice to one or two possibilities as a screen would need to be manufactured for each single digit and double digit combination (20 screens per font design).

Custom Order Times

The time each order takes can vary based on what time of year it is and what it is you are ordering. Lookfly Full Fat Jerseys and Shorts with printing can take 4 to 6 weeks whilst Lookfly Lite Jerseys with printing can take 2 to 4 weeks. We create a manufacturing schedule around major events and tournaments to ensure that all team orders are delivered on time. If you have a requirement for team uniforms in less than the time recommended above, please contact us because we can often reschedule the current work load to incorporate your order.

Minimum Order Quantities

On Time Delivery

The system we use to schedule our work load means we are very reliable when it comes to promising delivery dates. We negotiate with you at the time of ordering what date you expect to receive your custom team uniforms for. From that, we incorporate your order into our existing manufacturing schedule to ensure that adequate time is given to the production, print, numbering and shipping of your order. If we cannot meet your deadline request, we will notify you of this as soon as you place your order with us and before any manufacturing takes place. It is our policy to ensure that you never go to a tournament expecting the delivery of your order and have them not arrive.

Online Shop Shipping Times

We aim to dispatch all Lookfly shop orders within 5 days of them being placed, although usually they leave within 1-2 days, (subject to stock availability). This does not mean that you will necessarily receive your order within 5 days, but that the longest time between placing your order and it leaving our office is 5 days. Once it leaves our office, it goes into the Royal Mail postal system either First Class Post or by Parcel-Force. Overseas orders tend to go as a small packet service or International Data Post. For estimated delivery times to your location, please visit ParcelForce

    Our Fabrics

Aquaduct is the result of years of research and development, the objective being the creation of a fabric that would actively dispel moisture from within.
Aquaduct's pioneering qualities can help to transform your team’s on pitch comfort and on pitch play.
Our Fabric is source locally in the UK. In the past the UK was a thriving source of complex fabrics with Nottingham being famous for it's Lace market. In modern times, fabric manufacture has been pushed east into countries who could offer better prices while sacrificing fair wages and working conditions. We have a firm belief in keeping it local and have manage to do so by supporting the few remaining fabric manufacturers in the UK who have stood the test of time by producing some of the best technical fabrics available.
We do our best to set new standards in creating eco-friendly, comfortable, flexible and cool fabrics for all types of wear and weather conditions.

Lookfly Single Colour Jerseys vs Lookfly full custom Jerseys

Lookfly Lite single colour jerseys come "off the shelf" and are manufactured using the same 4ACTIVE fabric as all Lookfly Jerseys and are produced in the UK using our existing manufacturer. They cost less because we bulk manufacture each size in large quantities, making cutting time efficient and lowering material wastage. Standard Lookfly jerseys are custom made to your specifications which means they are individually cut and manufactured at the time of your order and are not available "off the shelf". It can take up to three times as long to manufacture full custom gear than it takes to make Lookfly single colour jerseys.
Single Colour jerseys come only in the sizes:
