Over the past month Lookfly have been spending a good amount of time in Italy. Ok it goes back a few months really. Way back sometime earlier this year we had an email from Max who had taken on the massive task of running the first EUCF (European Ultimate Club Finals). He was looking not so much for a sponsor but more for a partner to help make this event a success. Combining our three different roles as TDs, players and Lookfly, that's sounded like exactly the sort of challenge we're made for...
It started with a conversation about what we could do to help, that led to discussion about some of the problems Max was facing with the organisation of the event like...he wasn't allowed to paint pitch lines. Yikes!...To the rescue! Being in the textile industry can have benefits, we quickly whipped up 10 port-a-pitches made from 3.5kilometres of nylon polyblahdeblah webbing and away we go. Add to that 80 cones and 10 scoreboards and presto, we have the bare minimum for an event. We didn't stop there though. We put our design skills to work and built a tournament website for him (http://www.eucf2006.org) so he could showcase his superb event to the world. Now it was just up to his organisation team to sort out the massive tasks of arranging, food, water, shelter, a schedule, prizes and the countless other bits and bobs required to make a top level tournament great. The organisers were primarily Max, Gavin and Paul from the BB-Sea and Burla Beach Cup fame. It was here that we began to talk to Paul about partnering up for the Burla Beach Cup event. Of course what could we provide to an event that has everything already? Well...not much it turns out however we did dream up some killer merchandise for the event including some sexy Rocky Horror Beach Show Thongs that I think the men were more keen on than the ladies! So...back to the beginning of the story. It all came together in a whirlwind September in which we flew out to Burla Beach Cup and rocked along with 700+ party goers while trying to maintain our business composure, followed by a week off before driving 19 Hours across 6 countries (England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy) to get to the big one and first annual EUCF! Crazyness. 3.5Km of pitch lines were then laid with the 10 scoreboards and 80 cones and as players arrived we chilled while Max (always a cool head) did the job of TD. All in all the whole experience was a blast! The 19 hour drive back...again not too cool but what an adventure! We made loads friends and answered the question "Who are Lookfly?" asked by many different Nations while we were there. New friends are good. That why we play. |
